AN INFORMATIVE ESSAY (SELECTIVIDAD)

 YouTube (147)

YouTube is a video sharing service which allows users to use videos posted by others users and upload videos of their own (by themselves).

This service started as an independent website at the beginning of the XXI century but was purchased by Google in 2006, just one year after its creation. Videos uploaded to YouTube can appear both on the YouTube website or on different websites since the files are freely shared.
The motto or slogan of the website is 'Broadcast Yourself', which means that the service was designed primarily for ordinary people who want to publish videos they have created but in an very easy way, with no technological complications at all.
We could state that for cultural purposes, business interests or just for pure fun, countless people visit YouTube almost every second all over the world, this way having become a powerful tool in the technological world.

A FOR and AGAINST ESSAY

A FOR and AGAINST ESSAY

A For and Against Essay is usually about a topic which is quite controversial. This type of essay presents both sides of the issue and then states which side of the issue the writer agrees with (usually the idea exposed in the second paragraph). The objective when writing an For and Against Essay is to present both advantages and disadvantages of one single topic. In order to do so, the writer should give aspects about the essay topic that support his or her opinion.

FOR and AGAINST ESSAY STRUCTURE

1. Opening: It’s important to introduce the topic of the sentence in one sentence so that the reader knows what the essay is about.

2. Body: In two paragraphs, the writer must provide the reader with both advantages and disadvantages of the given topic. The writer’s opinion (if stated) is usually given in the second paragraph.

3. Conclusion: This final paragraph includes a brief summary and restates the writer’s opinion.

USEFUL LANGUAGE

In my opinion,

I personally think that

I think (that)

I believe (that)

On the one hand,....

On the other hand,...

First(ly),...

Second(ly),...

Final(ly),...

I love/like/hate/don’t mind

If you ask my opinion, I’d say

For example,

For instance,

It seems to be (that)

In conclusion,

To sum up,

In short,

AN EXAMPLE

Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in the City and in the Country (135)

My personal opinion about the advantages and disadvantages of living in the city and in the country is that both options are perfectly valid, it will just depend on your interests or preferences.

On the one hand, and because I was born within a huge city, I prefer living there since I am used to it, I find all the facilities these settings offer quite comfortable and I need urban spaces to carry on with my life.

On the other hand, living in the country can also be a wonderful experience due to the fact that those problems derived from insecurity, pollution or criminal rates are practically non-existing.

To sum up, whether to live in a city or in a village is always a very personal choice which will offer you both advantages and disadvantages.

Personnel Manager

21st Main Street
Gibraltar

 Dear Sir / Madam,
After having read your advert in ABC newspaper, I would like to apply for the position of full-time teacher in your Private School.

I have always liked teaching young students in English language and I enjoy living abroad as well. This way, I consider myself the perfect candidate for the job.

Despite of all my previous teaching experience, I have an excellent academic record and possess skills in communication, personal relations and teamwork. I have also received very deserved acknowledgment for my activities at different schools.

In a personal aspect, the qualities I admire from me are constancy and honesty. It is also evident my marked persistence, healthy competition and clear goal for obtaining my objectives. I have a lot of confidence in the future and I think I will achieve anything I propose.

I hope you will consider my application favourably. I have enclosed my CV and it will be my pleasure to assist you if you need further information regarding it.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

                    Yours faithfully,

                    Manuel Daza
